A Speechless Captain: Part 3
By Stephanie Stokell stokell2@ix.netcom.com

Mulan had fixed everything up very casually, everything from her attire to the simple pot of tea she had prepared. She was proud of the way she had arranged things, and all there was left to do now was wait for Shang’s arrival. She walked out into the garden, and sat on the pillar where the Great Stone Dragon once perched.

Now all that was left of him was a pile of apple-sized boulders and rubble. She smiled, thinking of dragons- then of Mushu and Cri-Kee. She missed her little friends very much and wished there was some way to awaken them. But they wouldn’t come back until she needed some kind of protection. She shifted her legs to sit cross-legged, and tore the fabric of her long pants. ‘Thank the Ancestors I’m not wearing a dress! Or I’d really need protection- from my Mother!’ she laughed to herself as she pulled her leg up the rest of the way. What she was wearing was very similar to what she had on this morning, accept it had a jade sash that was knotted at her hip, with long tassels hanging halfway down her leg, and these bandage-like things wrapped from her ankles all the way up her shins. She hadn’t quite figured out what they were for back in the army, but they were comfortable and went with the rest of the outfit- and that’s all that really mattered. Everything was so serene, she felt like she could stay there forever- until she heard the familiar sound of horse hooves coming closer. Her heart began to beat faster with excitement as she hurried down the pathway to greet Li Shang.
