Shang had no sooner dismounted Rayden (his horse) then he spotted his young *friend* running down a path towards him.
“ Hello Shang.” She said, stopping only inches from him.
His jaw dropped. ‘She’s…she’s gorgeous’ he thought to himself, but all he could get out was “Mulan. I…I missed you.”
She smiled shyly for a moment then leapt up and wrapped her arms tightly around his neck. “ It’s good to see you too.” She whispered.
He was in awe for a moment- not knowing what to do. He would not DARE touch her without her permission. “Um….” He began.
“ Go ahead.” She told him in a ‘sure, what the heck, no one’s around’ tone of voice. He smiled, and reluctantly wrapped his arms around her waist. The two enjoyed the quick embrace, and then parted. “See. That wasn’t so hard.” She flirted, walking past him to take Little Brother out of the pack that hung at Rayden’s side. Mulan quickly lead Rayden into the small fenced-in area where she kept Kahn, then invited Shang inside. “The tea I made is probably ice by now.” She joked, walking into the kitchen while Shang knelt down at the small table in the middle of the room. “Not to worry.”
She continued, returning to the room with a tray with a white teapot and two small cups. For the next few minutes all they did was talk, mostly about the war, but a few other topics came up here and there. “Remember when-“ she began, but then something caught her eye- Shang’s hand was shaking. Not really bad, just bad enough to be noticed. “ Shang?” “Mmm?” That was the only way he could respond since he was taking a drink. “Are you nervous?”
The way he reacted was almost funny. He spit the remainder of the tea back into the cup and started coughing. “Nervous? W..Why would I be n..nervous?” ‘His cover-up is pathetic, but adoreable. There’s got to be some way I could stop him from being so shaky…got it.’ She thought. “Shang..” she began again. “W..what?” Now it was obvious, he had it written all over his face. “Stand up."
”They both got up at the same time and he walked over to her.“Mulan, wha…” “Shh.” She interrupted him, putting a finger over his lips. “Stand up straight and close your eyes.” Mulan instructed. She put her hands on his shoulders, then on either side of his neck. ‘What IS she doing??’ he wondered. “Brace yourself” She said. Before his mind could wander any farther, she stood on tiptoe, put her lips to his and softly kissed him. He was startled for a moment, but then relaxed. In fact if it wasn’t for her standing there, he would have collapsed onto the floor. Then he opened his eyes, forgot all about permission and, wrapping his arms around her, pulled her closer. She was happy to feel his touch, smiled and thought ‘At least he’s not nervous anymore.’ She wanted to continue but really needed to breathe. Mulan put her hands on his chest and pushed her upper half away from him. Still in his arms, Shang flashed her a smile that could have lit up the room. “So.. what do you think?” She asked, now at his eye level because he was holding her off the ground.
“ Well..I,um..it was..” He stuttered, searching for an answer.
She smiled slyly at him. “What? What are you looking at?” He asked, laughing slightly.
Mulan wrapped her arms around his neck, leaving only centimeters between the two of them. And before kissing him again she replied- “A Speechless Captain.”
